Start your day with a maple long john or chocolate cake donut at Bloedow Bakery, a family-owned bakery that opened in 1924. Work off the pastries with a hike through Bluffside Park, where there are miles of premier trails. Stop at the Visitors’ Center for a complimentary cup of coffee and buy a postcard or other memorabilia to remember your visit. Head to downtown Winona to the Winona County History Center to learn about Winona’s past through an historical timeline and rotating exhibits. While there, pick up a downtown walking brochure for a self-guided tour of Winona’s historic district. Catch lunch at one of the local coffeehouses or cafes. After lunch, shop at one of several thrift stores. Take a free self-guided tour of the Watkins Museum to learn about the original apothecary manufacturer and purchase a bottle of their famous vanilla. Plan a stop at Windom Park, home to the Princess Wenonah statue and fountain, and take a picturesque photo. Pack a picnic or get take out for dinner and head for Lake Park and find a spot to enjoy a view of Lake Winona, and then rent a canoe or kayak for an evening spin around Lake Winona.
